As the SLB directorial biopic hit the theatres on Friday. After Allu Arjun’s Pushpa this is the biggest release that the entertainment industry is witnessing at the moment also keeping in mind the global pandemic scenario. The numbers for Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi took the box office by surprise mounting a whopping Rs 10.5 crore on day 1. And as far as early trends for the second day is considered, it is estimated between 9-10 crores for the day.
Sharing the details, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#GangubaiKathiawadi surprises on Day 1… Opens higher than #Raazi [pre-Covid release]… While the industry/trade was expecting ₹ 6.25 cr – ₹ 7.25 cr, the strong word of mouth help biz escalate evening show onwards… Fri ₹ 10.50 cr. #India.
While the film is working wonders at the box office, scepticism on the titular character and its casting were huge. One such hit came from the Thalaiva starrer, Kangana Ranaut. While the Lock Upp host vented how she thinks the film would perform last week, in a latest social media post, she has showered love on it. From praising the ‘female-centric film,’ and its director, she also commented on how surprised she is with the ‘movie mafia.’
