Bijapur: A 26-year-old (STF)Special Task Force Jawan was allegedly killed by Naxals late on Thursday night in the Reddy Road area, police official said on Friday. Reportedly the STF jawan was on a month-long medical leave and undergoing treatment in his native village Bijapur.

This deceased Jawan identified as Arjun Kudiyam, a resident of Dhanora village located under Gangaloor police station limits was thrashed before being strangulated to death a senior police officer said. It is reported that members of Gangaloor area committee of Maoists have dropped notes claiming the responsibility for the incident. However, investigations are still on to find out if the jawan reach the spot himself or was abducted by the Naxals.

“Preliminary police investigation suggests that Kudiyam might have been badly beaten up before he was strangulated to death. However, the exact reason behind his death would be clear in the autopsy report,” the official said.

The body is sent for post mortem to a govt hospital and investigations for the offence have been initiated, the officer added.
