Katni: First of its kind, the Katni police on 23rd February appointed a 4-year-old as a police constable. The SSP Sunil Jain himself handed over the letter to the individual.

It happens to be that, Gajendra Markam is the son of deceased head constable Shyam Singh Markam, who died of a heart attack in 2017 while on duty in Narsinghpur As per the norms the next of the kin was awarded the post, however, Gajendra who was quite young then wasn’t handed over the charge.

5 years now, Markam has been handed over the appointment in writing. The 5-year-old would join the police as a constable after attaining 18 years. Until then the govt has decided to issue half the salary of the post to the boy and pension to the work.

Reportedly, the wife of the deceased was awarded the post, however, she appealed that her son be given the chance and so submitted the required documents for procuring the job.

Gajendra Markam stands to be the youngest and the first in the state who is awarded the post in the police department.
