Bengaluru: Hijab ban means Quran ban said, Advocate Vinod Kulkarni seeking interim relief from the hijab ban while making his submissions today. The HC in yet another attempt posted the Hijab matter for continuation tomorrow.
Banning Hijab is tantamount to banning Quran. My submission is that please pass an order today to allow the wearing of hijab on Friday and during Ramzan- the petitioners’ statement read. The counsel further stated that the attempt to exclude Hijab has been affecting students mentally. Submitting plea before the full bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice J M Khazi and Justice Krishna S Dixit, Kulkarni contended there was a “mass hysteria” in the country due to the Hijab issue. He said Hijab was “not against health or morality”.
Meanwhile, around 60 students of the government G Shankar memorial women’s first-grade degree college in Udupi on Thursday returned home after they were denied entry wearing Hijab. In another college, in Shivamogga 40 students wearing Hijab and Burqa were stopped outside the gates of DVS Independent College on Thursday.
Amidst the pro-hijab protests, the state govt reopened all schools and colleges and instructed students to abide by the interim order issued by the HC. Prohibitory orders are in place across nine districts to prevent untoward incidents.
