Raipur: A police team from Gobaranwapara caught two passengers on a bus en route to Mumbai. Nearly 18 kgs of Cannabis ( Ganja) was recovered from the baggage of the passengers, on Saturday police said.
The accused has been identified as Suresh Kasbe, 53, son of Sadashiv Kasbe, a resident of Mumbai. Reportedly, a police informer gave the tip-off based on which the search was conducted. During the interrogation, it was learnt that the accused was travelling to Mumbai to sell the contraband. Taking the accused into custody, a case under the NDPS Act has been booked.
After the incident in Raipur where a civilian was murdered by a knife in daylight, the police have launched search campaigns across several toll booths to locate criminals. Checking passengers for Ganja and other illegal substances is being vigorously done in the Mujhagan police station limits, toll plaza Tarpongi, and Nandan Van Chowk under Amanaka Police station limits.
Apart from these, on the instruction of SP Prashant Agarwal, a scrutinization operation of all criminals was initiated. Under which 14 people were booked under the Excise Act for drinking alcohol in public places like Azad Chowk, Purani Basti, Telibandha and Gudhiyari.
