New Delhi: India recorded 83,876 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 96.19 per cent accounted 1,99,054 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,06,60,202. The daily positivity rate stood at 7.25 per cent.
The number of active cases stood at 11,08,938 accounting for 2.62 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a drop by 1,16,073 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate stood at 1.19 per cent reported spike in deaths recording 895 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 5,02874.
Worst hit state Maharashtra reported 9,666 new cases during the last 24 hours. This took the cumulative active tally to 78,03,700. Meanwhile, the Drugs Controller General of India on Sunday granted emergency-use approval to the single-show Sputnik Light vaccine. This is the 9th Covid vaccine approved in India.
Schools in Delhi and four other states reopened from Monday after a surge in Covid cases had led to their closure in December.
The health bulletin documented 169.63 crore cumulative vaccinations under the nationwide vaccination drive, including 14.70 lakh administrations in the past 24 hours.
