New Delhi: Quitting Congress ahead of the elections, Senior member in UP and Former Union minister Ratanjit Pratap Narain Singh, claimed that this former party no longer remained the same. RPN, who quit Congress on Tuesday, taking taking the oath as a member of BJP said, “For 32 years, I worked diligently with the Congress. It has changed. It is no longer the party it used to be.” “If the country is to be taken forward, I would do whatever is needed as a party worker, he added.”
Taking to Twitter handle today afternoon, he dropped his Congress credentials and tweeted his resignation letter to party President Sonia Gandhi.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who welcomed RPN Singh into the BJP fold, said, “I would tell RPN Singh on a few occasions that someone like you should be with Modi ji. It is a good sign that he accepted PM Modi’s leadership.”
Mr Singh, a key OBC (Other Backward Class) leader from eastern UP, is the second big exit for the Congress in the state after Jitin Prasada, who is now a minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in UP.
A day earlier, Singh was on the list of the Congress’s star campaigners for UP. Singh would now contest the UP polls from his stronghold Padrauna, from where he has been elected MLA thrice. He would be fighting against Swami Prasad Maurya, who recently quit the BJP and joined the Samajwadi Party.
