Tamil Nadu: A Tamil Nadu youth was allegedly thrashed by police personnel inside the police station. It is claimed Rahim, a law student was detained for engaging in a physical tussle with a policeman who questioned him for not wearing a mask while riding. Nine police personnel have been booked for allegedly assaulting after the youth gave a statement in the media on being released on bail

It was on Friday, the the14th of January, in the Kodungaiyur area where a constable had stopped Rahim at MR Nagar for not wearing a mask. Reportedly, the verbal charges turned into violent assault as the cop prohibited the law student to proceed. After arresting him, officials at the station have physically assaulted him as seen in the videos that flooded social media.

An outrage triggered as the video gathered hundreds of views. On January 20th, the city saw a protest held by several advocates and law students in Phullianthope. Sloganeering outside the DCPs residence, they claimed the allegations made by the police were fabricated. They denounced the police and had demanded an FIR against them.

Hours later, the constable and the head constable were suspended. An FIR was filed against Nazeema and eight other police personnel were booked under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and 294 (b) (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) of the IPC.
