New Delhi: Retired justice Indu Malhotra, is assigned to head the committee constituted to probe PM Modi’s security lapse. Amongst the other members of the committee officers from NIA and Punjab Police were also named. The NIA Director-General, the Chandigarh police chief, the Additional Director General of Punjab Police (Security) and the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court will be members of the inquiry, the apex court specified.
A bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli on Wednesday asserted that the panel would inquire into causes of the security breach, persons responsible for the breach, and also measures to be taken in future to prevent security breaches of the Prime Minister and other constitutional functionaries.
“These questions cannot be left upon any one-sided enquiry. We need an independent probe,” said the apex court quashing the state’s demand for an internal probe.
Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has been directed to provide accumulated documents pertaining to the security arrangements made by the Punjab government for the PM’s January 5 visit immediately to the panel head.
