Raipur: Over 20 police personnel were injured when a protest staged by contractual workers of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Thermal Power Plant turned violent in Madwa, Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh.  These contractual workers have been protesting for the past several days demanding their services to be made permanent. The power plant is operated by Chhattisgarh State Power Company.

“As many as 20 police personnel suffered injuries and the windscreen of several police vehicles were damaged during the incident”, said the Superintendent of Police, Janjgir-Champa, Prashant Thakur. He further added that a private vehicle was also set on fire, however, the situation is under control now.

A  video conferencing session was arranged for those taking part in the stir. However, the protestors refused to vacate the area. On January 4, protesting workers were supposed to talk to the Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Power Company.
