New Delhi: Union Health Ministry on Friday informed Centre’s decision to deploye expert teams to ten states that have reported a record rise in Omicron cases or slow vaccination pace. States including Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bengal, Mizoram, Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand and Punjab are on the list issued.

The multidisciplinary team would coordinate with the state health authorities for five days and take stock of the preparedness. It would press health authorities on improving testing and surveillance and enforcing Covid-appropriate behaviour. Necessary renovation of hospital infrastructure and enhancement of services will also be directed by the team. The team would access the availability of medical oxygen and beds as precautionary means to tackle untoward situations.

“State-level central teams will assess the situation, suggest remedial actions and submit a report every evening by 7 pm on the public health activities being undertaken…” the Health Ministry said.

So far 415 Omicron infections have been reported across the nation. Maharashtra has the highest number of Omicron infection with 108, followed by Delhi with 79. Gujarat has 43 cases and Telangana 38. Kerala has a total of 37 Omicron cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 34.
