New Delhi: The funeral of the Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika who lost their lives in a chopper crash along with 13 others while heading towards Wellington. The mortal remains of the honoured were laid down on Thursday evening at the Palam Airbase Delhi, where PM Modi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Ajit Doval and several top officials from the defence department paid tributes.

The cremation scheduled at 2 pm would be performed with full military honours at the Brar Square Crematorium, Delhi Cantonment. Union Home Minister Amit Shah today paid respect to the deceased Gen at the formers’ residence 3, Kamraj Marg. From 10 am to 12:30 pm today, all civilians can pay respect to Gen and his wife, quoted reporters as saying by Army officials. Following which the forces were slated to pay their tributes between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm.

Gen Rawat and 12 others on board a Mi-17 V5 helicopter died after the carrier crashed in Sulur town Tamil Nadu. The crew was heading towards Defence Services Staff College in Wellington while it suffered a crash.  Group Captain Varun Singh the lone survivor from the crash, sustained severe injuries and was on life support sources reported. He was later shifted to Air Force Command Hospital at Bengaluru for treatment.
