New Delhi: India recorded 8,895 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.35 per cent accounted for 6,918 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,40,60,774. The daily positivity rate stood at 0.73 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 62 consecutive days.

The number of active cases stood at 99,155 accounting for 0.29 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline by 819 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.37 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 2796 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,73,326.

After Karnataka, Gujarat and Mumbai on Saturday reported thrid and fourth case of Omicron respectively. The states tightened screening and contact tracing for pax arriving from nations ‘at risk’.

A 33-year-old person from Kalyan-Dombivli who recently returned from South Africa was found positive for Omicron. The passenger arrived in Mumbai on Nov 24 from Capetown, South Africa through Dubai & Delhi. He hasn’t taken any vaccine. 12 of his high-risk contacts & 23 of the low-risk contacts have been traced and all have been tested negative informed Maharashtra Health Dept.

As per the statistics reported to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so far 127.61 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country , including 10.04 lakh doses given in the last 24 hours.
