New Delhi: According to official sources, CBI Special Director Praveen Sinha was elected as a delegate from Asia to the INTERPOL executive committee on Thursday. The Indian candidate won a tight poll in which candidates from China, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, and Jordan competed for two seats on the select panel.

The elections took place in Istanbul at the 89th INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organisation) General Assembly, which is currently underway. According to the official, INTERPOL’s election success was the product of a worldwide election campaign that was vigorous and well-coordinated.

“Today’s victory is the result of an intense and well-coordinated election campaign across the world,” said a source.

Officials from the campaign said, “The significant support of the friendly countries was also sought at the bilateral engagements at the different levels. The Indian embassies and high commissions were regularly following it up with their host governments. Reportedly, the high commissioners and ambassadors in Delhi were similarly reached out.”
