New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to address an event today at 10:30am, November 16 marking the first Audit Diwas at the CAG office.According to an official release he is also scheduled to unveil the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the occasion.The centre celebrates Audit Diwas to mark the historic origin of the CAG and its contributions in governance, yeilding transparency and accountability over the past several years.

The event will be graced by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, former Lt. Governor of UT of Jammu Kashmir, Girish Chandra Murmu.

Taking to his microblogging handle on Monday evening, PM Modi wrote- “At 10:30 AM tomorrow, I would be taking part in the programme to mark the first Audit Diwas.””Audit Diwas seeks to highlight the rich contributions of CAG to boost transparency and good governance, he further added.”

CAG was established in accordance with Article 148 of the Constitution of India. It is empowered to Audit all receipts and expenditure of the central as well as state governments.

The CAG is the regulatory auditor of Government-owned corporations. It conducts supplementary audit of government companies, where Government is having an equity share of 51 per cent. It has been ranked at 9th place in the order of precedence, meaning it enjoys same status as the sitting judge of Supreme Court.
