Madhya Pradesh: Due to Diwali fireworks, the air in some cities in Madhya Pradesh got spoiled. The level of pollution here reached near 250. The highest pollution was recorded in Gwalior at 257, while it was 247 in Jabalpur and 246 in Bhopal. In Indore too, the pollution level increased from 143 to 192. The pollution on Diwali night remained the same as last year as compared to the last 7 days. After the warning of the Pollution Control Board, the burning of crackers was banned in Gwalior and Singrauli. Orders were given to burn only green crackers in the state. Even after that, the pollution remained the same as last year. This record is according to the data of the National Air Quality Index.
The central government has installed modern computerized systems to monitor pollution in major cities of the country. These systems have been installed in 15 cities in the state. It is located in Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Sagar, Damoh, Katni, Pithampur, Satna, Maihar, Singrauli, Dewas, Mandideep, Ratlam and Ujjain.
Earlier, the Pollution Control Board had written a letter to the government requesting a ban on the burning of crackers in many cities and a time limit for the bursting of crackers in the city. After this, a new guideline was also issued by the district administration. However, its effect was not visible. The fireworks which started at 6 PM on Diwali continued till late at night. Due to this the pollution level started increasing from 10 PM onwards. In many places, it had crossed 500 till 2 AM. However, this incident started after 6 in the morning.
