New Delhi: India recorded 16,326 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, Union Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 98.16 per cent accounted for 17,677 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,35,32,126. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.20 per cent, less than 2 per cent for 19 consecutive days. The number of active cases stood at 1,73,728 accounting for 0.51 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 2017 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 666 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,53,708.

The second worst hit state Kerala, added 291 deaths to its overall COVID attributed deaths giving the national mortality rate a leap. The Jammu and Kashmir administration has issued fresh guidelines to regulate pilgrims at Vaishno Devi temple which mandated valid and verifiable RT-PCR/Rapid Antigen Test not older than 72 hours of arrival at the Union Territory. It also added that pilgrims who do not show any COVID-19 symptoms will be allowed to enter the shrine. Meanwhile, since the end of Durga Puja festivities, Kolkata has been paying the prices of shopping and socializing. A drastic increase in the COVID CURVE is observed. All organisations housing isolation centres have been instructed to stay put for uninformed admissions.

As per the Union Ministry of Health, 68.48 lakh vaccinations were administered in the past 24 hours, that took the cumulative count to 101.30 crore.
