On Thursday, the 5th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships got off to a flying start, with Delhi’s Hemlata defeating Assam’s PS Mantasaha Kumari 4-0 in the 50kg division. At St Joseph’s International School in Hisar, Haryana, nimble-footed Hemlata gave Mantasaha no chance as she connected her jabs with precision and won the competition unanimously.
Another highlight of Day 1 was Maharashtra’s Aarya Kulkarni’s immaculate performance, which saw her defeat Arunachal Pradesh’s Yape Bamang 5-0. Kulkarni’s entire dominance was clear from the first round, and she didn’t let up until the last round to claim an easy victory. More than 320 pugilists from all over the country have registered for the competition.
On Day One, Goa’s Priti Chawan, who defeated West Bengal’s Monika Pandey, and Punjab’s Komal, who blanked Uttarakhand’s Sonia Gauni 5-0, dominated the 50kg category. An exciting battle between Madhya Pradesh’s Anjali Sharma and Tamil Nadu’s V Vinodhini took place in the 52kg category. Following the successful completion of the junior, youth, and men’s national events, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has organized the 6th national championship following the restart of the domestic circuit following the Covid-19 pandemic.
