An aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Uttarakhand was conducted by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) joined him. HM Amit Shah reached Dehradun on Wednesday night to inspect the situation. “So far, no tourist casualties have been reported in Uttarakhand due to rain,” adds Amit Shah.
According to the state government’s account on Thursday morning, at least 60 people have perished in various incidents triggered over the previous 4 days by heavy rains and accompanying flash floods in Uttarakhand, with rescue teams had recovered 2 more dead bodies on Wednesday night. Heavy rains pounded the hilly state on October 17th and 19th, injuring 19 people and leaving 5 people missing.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) stated on Wednesday that over 1,300 people had been rescued from the impacted districts. NDRF has deployed 17 teams across Uttarakhand. On Wednesday, as the weather improved, state government officials allowed the stranded pilgrims to precede to the Chardham pilgrimage sites of Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri.
