Uttar Pradesh: On Monday, a lawyer was fatally shot inside a district court complex in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The deceased has been identified as Bhupendra Pratap Singh. His body was discovered on the third floor of the complex.

According to reports, advocate Bhupendra Singh was shot and killed in the ACJM (Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate) office on the third floor of the court around 11:45 p.m. A pistol made in the country was also discovered near the body.

It is reported that the incident gathered no witnesses. As soon as the incident came to light it was reported to the higher authorities and SP S Anand and DM Inder Vikram Singh arrived to probe the killing. Meanwhile, the police are checking the CCTV cameras for a clear picture of the incident.

S Anand said, “According to initial reports, it appears the man was alone. No other person was seen around him at the time of the incident. The forensic team is at work…Circumstances around killing are unclear.” Criticism poured in from opposition after the incident occurred. Dr Shama Mohamed, national spokesperson of the Congress party tweeted, “A lawyer was killed inside a court complex in Shahjahanpur. In UP, police kill a businessman in a midnight raid, farmers are mowed down by a minister’s son, & lawyers are murdered. This is law & order under @myogiadityanath, who himself had more than 10 IPC sections against him!”
