New Delhi: On Friday, petrol and diesel prices were raised for the second day in a row across the country. In the national capital, petrol prices were raised by Rs 0.35 to Rs 105.14 per litre, while diesel prices were raised by the same amount to Rs 93.87 per litre. Petrol prices in Mumbai, the country’s financial centre, were raised by Rs 0.34 to Rs 111.09 per litre, while diesel prices were boosted by Rs 0.38 to Rs 101.78 per litre. In Kolkata, West Bengal, petrol and diesel were priced at Rs 105.76 per litre and Rs 96.98 per litre, respectively, and in Chennai, they were priced at Rs 98.26 per litre and Rs 102.40 per litre.
Last week, oil firms began boosting motor fuel prices. The pause on the prices on October 12th and 13th came after a seven-day consecutive rise. After a two-day hiatus, prices were raised for the second consecutive day today. During this time, the price boost pushed petrol prices beyond Rs.100 per litre in more than half of the country, while diesel prices did so in at least three states. India is dependent on imports to meet nearly 85% of its oil needs and so benchmarks local fuel to international oil prices.
