Uttar Pradesh:  Accused Ashish Mishra son of Union Minister Ajay Minister failed to arrive for questioning this morning despite nationwide outrage over the case. Ajay Mishra was called for interrogation today at 10 am by Officer Upendra Agarwal who heads the eight-member interrogation team.

On Thursday, Ashish Mishra was summoned by the UP Police for questioning amid calls of his arrest from opposition and farmer unions.  An FIR was lodged in the name of Ajay Mishra, stating he drove into a gathering of protesting farmers amid a peaceful black flag protest. The FIR read- “The incident took place around 3 pm when Ashish Mishra with his three vehicles along with 15-20 men with weapons moved towards Banwaripur meeting place… Ashish, sitting on the left side of his Thar Mahindra fired at the crowd. The vehicle mowed into the people… Due to the firing, farmer Sukhvinder Singh’s 22-year-old Son Gurvinder died,”

Meanwhile, the SC today has sought a status report from the UP govt. The apex court demanded a detailed report of the eight people who died in the Lakhimpur violence on Sunday and those mentioned in the FIR. The SC bench headed by CJI Ramana also sought the UP govt details of the SIT and the judicial commission constituted.

The violence that erupted on Sunday gained major political mileage ahead of the state election next year. Oppositions are leaving no stone unturned to bring down the Yogi Govt calling its action ‘ruthless and inhuman’.
