New Delhi: Scrapping its controversial travel clause on Thursday, the UK govt announced to call off quarantine measures for fully vaccinated Indians arriving in the country. The new travel guideline would fall into effect from Monday next week it informed.
“No quarantine for Indian travellers to the U.K, Fully vaccinated with COVISHILED or another UK approved vaccine from 11 October. Thanks to the Indian government for close cooperation over last month,” said British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis tweeted. However, un-vaccinated passengers or passengers from countries of unauthorized vaccine would have to undergo a pre-departure test, a day 2 and a day 8-test and complete their quarantine cycle of 10 days.
This decision comes after the UK govt revised its travel restrictions for countries under the radar. As per the order, 47 countries and territories will be removed from the list reinstilling travel stability. Taking to Twitter UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps said on Thursday, “The measure announced today mark the next step as we continue to open up travel and provide stability for passengers and industry while remaining on track to keep travel open for good.”
Travel guidelines from the UK govt have been a controversial row in recent days. On October 1, the Indian govt mandated quarantine on travellers from the UK as a backlash to the restrictions imposed on travellers from India and several nations. The UK govt had faced intense criticism for not recognizing citizens of other nations unless they received their jabs.
