New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday that India is not in a hurry to consider recognising the Taliban government in Afghanistan. He said India was not taken seriously on various aspects of the Doha agreement last year. The External Affairs Minister also stated that the Quad or Quadrilateral coalition, which includes India, the United States, Australia, and Japan, is not against any country and should not be viewed negatively.
At a principle level, India and the US are on a similar page, on many of the issues, says S Jaishankar. He said the issue figured in discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden in Washington last week. India has been victims of cross border terrorism from that region.
He further added that “there are aspects that we share, and there are aspects where maybe our positions are not exactly the same”. He also said on how to deal with the rise of China, those are bilateral choices that all countries; US, Australia, Japan, and India will have to make.
