Maharashtra: Resident doctors in Maharashtra have called for an indefinite strike from today. The doctor’s association strike commenced at 8 am where members of the Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) participated and announced to continue the strike until demands are met. However, the association emphasized that the emergency services would continue while the OPD would be stalled.
Speaking about the strike, Dr Akshay Yadav, a member of MARD asserted for a written assurance in regards to the meeting called by the higher authorities of the Ministry on Friday at 11:30 am. Citing the tireless co-operation by the doctors during the pandemic, he asserted they demanded justice for COVID Warriors.
Listing their demands, the primary category presented was fees wave off. They demanded academic fees waive off following which they demanded an infrastructure development of hostels across the state. Additionally, they urged the TDS deduction from a stipend of resident doctors of BMC to be removed. Their demands concluded calling for immediate release of COVID incentives for the doctors on Duty.
Earlier on Thursday, a meeting was held between the Director of Medical Education and MARD that remained inconclusive and nessitated another dialogue today. The association has claimed to resume their duties only if their demands are positively comprehended otherwise which the state hospitals would continue to witness indefinite strike.
