New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi today is scheduled to launch the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation today. Releasing a statement on Thursday the PMO informed the launch of the second edition of the SBM and AMRUT on Friday at 11 am at Dr Ambedkar International Centre. The second phase of the program is made to realize the aspiration to make all cities garbage-free and water-secure read the press release from the PMO.
“These flagship missions signify a step forward in the march towards effectively addressing the challenges of rapidly urbanising India and will also help contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030”, the statement further stated.
Under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, the Centre aims to make all cities ‘Garbage Free’ and ensure grey and black water management in all cities other than those covered under AMRUT. This mission would focus on source segregation of solid waste, utilizing the principles of 3Rs (Reduce, reuse, recycle). As per the determined strategies, the outlay of SBM-U 2.0 is around Rs 1.41 lakh crore.
On the contrary, AMRUT 2.0 mission is planned to make the cities self-reliant and ensuring water security. This mission aims to provide 100 per cent coverage of water supply to all households in around 4,700 urban local bodies by providing about 2.68 crore tap connections and 100% coverage of sewerage and seepage in 500 AMRUT cities by providing around 2.64 crore sewer/ seepage connections, which will benefit more than 10.5 crore people in urban areas. The financial investment of AMRUT 2.0 is around Rs 2.87 lakh crore.
Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep SinghPuri and Ministers of Urban Development of States and UTs would also attend the event.
