India recorded 28,326 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported.


The recovery rate at 97.77 per cent accounted for 26,032  recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,29,02,351. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.90  per cent, less than 3 per cent since the past 27 days.


The active caseload stands at 3,03,476 accounting for 0.90 per cent of the total number of cases. 2,034 active cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported 260 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,46,918.

Covaxin, India’s first indigenous vaccine failed to become a part of India’s vaccination story against COVID-19 as it turned out to be the most expensive vaccine with limited stocks. Sources reveal that Serum Institute has supplied over 71.50 crore doses, that amounts to 88.4 per cent of share in Indian vaccination drive. Contrary to this, Covaxin was supported by 9.28 crore doses, amounting to 11.5 per cent of total doses.

Some health experts blame the central government for providing lopsided support to Bharat Biotech as the terms of engagement with these manufacturers are not transparent.
