Washington: PM Narendra Modi today landed at Joint Base Andrews, Washington DC for his three-day visit. On his first international trip after the second wave of the pandemic, Modi is accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. The Indian leaders were welcomed by Biden’s official representatives and Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Modi would be meeting his counterparts from Australia and Japan and Prez Biden to take stock of the outcomes of the strategies laid down during the virtual QUAD summit in March. The leaders would also identify priorities for future engagements in the Indo-Pacific region.
During the bilateral talks with Pres Biden on Sept 24, PM Modi would focus on Afghanistan and its implications, China’s growing supremacy, and zero down on strategies to combat cross border terrorism and eradicate radicalization. Following which he is scheduled to fly to New York to address the United Nations General Assembly on Sept 25.
As per his schedule, Modi would also convene with the first Indo-American Vice president Ms Harris. Being elevated over the physical meet he said that he ‘was looking forward to the talks to explore and incorporate accords in the area of science and technology.
This is Modi’s 7th visit to the US after he gained power in 2014. Earlier he had visited the US in September 2019, when Donald Trump led the Senate.
