New Delhi: India reported 26,964 fresh infections in a single day. The recovery rate at 97.77 per cent accounted for 34,167 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3.27.83.741. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.69 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 23 consecutive days.

The number of active cases stood at 3,01,989 accounting for 0.90 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 7,586 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 383 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,45,768.

Kerala and Maharashtra the top leading states continued to report a surge. R-value for COVID-19 of Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore are reported to be above 1. Likewise, Mizoram in the Northeast reports the highest number of daily cases. In the meanwhile, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand reported zero COVID deaths in the past 24 hours.

The Serum Institute of India (SII) has informed the Centre that it will be able to supply around 22 crore doses of Covishield in October to facilitate the export of surplus COVID vaccines in the coming fourth quarter under the “Vaccine Maitri” programme, official sources said. India’s cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination coverage is 82.65 crores, the Union Health Ministry informed. Nearly, 75.57 lakh beneficiaries were vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
