Madhya Pradesh: CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has set about projecting himself as a tough taskmaster by holding several meetings focused on governance, reminding officers that the state should be an example of good governance. He has stated that any officer found guilty of collecting money for PM Awas Yojna allotment will not be spared. He took this decision after visiting home minister Amit Shah praised Rakesh Singh, a former BJP chief and a Member of Parliament. He mentioned this at a commissioner collector meeting on Monday.
On September 18, Shah was in Jabalpur for Balidan Diwas, a festival commemorating the Gond tribal ruler Shankar Shah and his son Kunwar Raghunath Shah, who were punished by the British for their roles in the 1857 uprising. Chouhan met Governor Mangubhai Patel the day after the event, which Congress leaders described as an “unusual” meeting. The meeting, according to the CM, was held to discuss development plans. He presided over a conference of officials from the Indian Police Service and the Indian Administrative Service in districts, when he stated, “I will rate the officers on their work. We have to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. The state should be a model of good governance and any officer failing to discharge their duties will be penalized.”
