New Delhi: India reported 26,115 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 97.75 per cent accounted for 34,469 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,27,49,574. The daily positivity rate stood at 1.85 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 22 consecutive days.

The number of active cases stood at 3,09,575 accounting for 0.92 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 8,606 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.33 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 252 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,45,385.

 Kerala leads the states emerging as the major contributor to the national COVID tally. In the last 24 hours, the state reported 15,692 infections which have yielded to be the highest single-day rise so far. In view of the resurgence, neighbouring state Karnataka has imposed strict restrictions on people arriving from Kerala. Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar. Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand reported zero COVID deaths in the past 24 hours. Whereas Mizoram in the Northeast reported 1,731 new infections in a single day with 2 COVID related deaths.

India’s cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination coverage reached 81.85 crores the Union Health Ministry informed. Nearly, 96.46 lakh beneficiaries were vaccinated in the last 24 hours. Additionally, the centre on Monday announced to resume the export and donation of excess vaccines to vaccine deprived nations from next month. Earlier in April India had stopped its export to focus on inoculating its citizens first.
