Days after announcing to resign as the Indian Captain for T20Is, Virat Kohli took his fans by a shock after announcing to step down as the RCB captain at the end of the second leg of the IPL 2021.

Taking to the official microblogging handle the cash-rich league franchise RCB, wrote, “Virat Kohli to step down from RCB captaincy after #IPL2021”. The handle featured a video wherein Virat said, “This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me. This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me.”

Kohli had taken over as the RCB captain after Daniel Vettori in 2013 relinquished the positions.   However, despite his explicit skills, the right-hander batsman failed to win a title for the franchise. The best season under his captaincy was seen in 2016 when the team made it to the finals.  So far Virat led RCB in 132 matches in IPL with 60 wins and 65 losses.

Currently, the team stands at the 3rd spot and would compete against Kolkata Knight Riders today in Abu Dhabi.
