New Delhi: A well-known Kashmiri writer and former Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr Aziz Hajini passed away at the age of 64 following a brief illness, in Srinagar, family source said. Hajini, who hailed from Hajin Sonawari area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, held several positions in academic and literary circles and authored several books. He was laid to rest on the morning of September 12 in Srinagar.

Several organisations, political parties and leaders have expressed condolences over Hajini’s demise.

“Dr Aziz Hajini’s demise has left a big void in the literary circles of J&K. Hajini, a noted writer & former Secretary Cultural Academy was also the author of numerous acclaimed books. His absence in Art & culture circuit will be deeply felt. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wrote on Twitter.

“May Allah (SWT) bestow the departed soul place in Jannah and persevere to the bereaved family for this irreparable loss,” the People’s Conference said.

Aziz Hajini was a Sahitya Academy award winner. In 2013, Hajini received an award for best translation in Kashmiri for translating a nove Do Gaz Zameen, originally written by Abdul Samad.
