New Delhi: Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the resistance force in the Panjshir Valley, is still in Afghanistan, but 70 percent of the main streets in Panjshir are under Taliban control. Sources quashed rumors’ about Massoud leaving the Central Asian country for Turkey or any other place are false. The resistance leader is said to be in a safe place and in contact with the Panjshir Valley.
The Taliban claim to have captured Afghanistan’s Panjshir province, the country’s last stronghold of resistance. Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front (NRF) has denied the claim. Qassem Mohammadi said, “In recent days, the Taliban entered Panjshir and now 70 per cent of the main streets and passages are under their control, but the valleys of Panjshir are still under the complete control of the popular forces.”
Panjshir has always been the base camp of the National Resistance Front under the leadership of Ahmed Masood and former Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who describes himself as the interim president. On Sunday, Masood said he was ready to stop fighting and start negotiations if the Taliban were to leave the province, but the Taliban advanced and killed the leader of the resistance front who declared victory over the Valley. According to the report, Amrullah Saleh fled the country and went into hiding after the Taliban claimed control of the province.
