The security arrangements have been heightened in Karnal, Haryana today as farmers will be holding a mahapanchayat. Sources reveal that farmers also plan to block the mini-secretariat over the August 28 lathi-charge done by the police.

Central forces as well as Haryana Police have been heavily deployed at the Anaj Mandi, Karnal where farmers will meet and plan to move towards the mini-secretariat. Although vehicular traffic on the Delhi-Karnal-Ambala National Highway was normal since the morning, there is heavy barricading. The Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Chief Gurnam Singh Chaduni has appealed to the farmers to assemble at the Anaj Mandi in a peaceful manner.

Earlier on Monday, the Haryana Government had suspended all the internet services in Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, and Panipat districts till Tuesday midnight. Forty companies of security personnel, including 10 of the central armed forces were deployed in the Karnal district as the prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Penal Code (CrPC) was imposed.
