Mumbai: Subhas Jadhav, a 48-year-old farmer from Pune consumed poison after he was denied entry at Mantralaya to meet Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and home minister Dilip Walse. He was admitted to GT hospital on Friday when he consumed the poison but he could not be saved. He breathed his last on Sunday and his death has irked the former CM of the state Devendra Fadnavis. He urged the current state govt to take matters in hand immediately and solve the farmers’ issue as soon as possible.

“This is a very unfortunate incident. There is no system left in Maharashtra to hear out farmers. The way the posting of officers is happening in the state is questionable. Later, these officers do not even care about issues of farmers and poor that come in front of them and they do not have any time for them”, said Fadnavis targeting the Uddhav Thackeray govt. He also urged the govt to settle the matter outside of the govt offices and to also provide compensation to the dead farmer’s family.

The Pune farmer Jadhav stood outside the Mantralaya gate for hours but he was denied entry. Some sources suggest that “Some people had captured Jadhav’s land in Pune. He had complained about the matter at the nearest police station. But the police station there did not take any action. Jadhav then reached Mantralaya so that his matter would be heard”. The Marine Drive police have finally lodged a complaint on 8 people after Jadhav’s son Ganesh filed a complaint.
