New Delhi: Underscoring the pain of partition, PM Modi took to his microblogging site on Saturday announcing to observe 14th August as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

He wrote-” Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.” He further said ,” May the #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay keeps reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment.”

Pakistan and India were partitioned on August 14, 1947. Since then both the nations observe Independence Day on 14 and 15 respectively.

Meanwhile, a day before the 75 Independence Day celebration, the capital has amplified its security. Police officials have activated stringent identity checks of commuters and their vehicles. Sniffer dogs have been deployed at task to monitor threat prone locations. Several states have tightened security to keep any violence at bay.
