Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has been reporting a drastic surge in Dengue cases striking a competition against the already surging COVID-19 infections.
This year the state has recorded nearly 395 cases. As per the figures with the state health department, 4,000 tests were conducted between January-August 2021. Out of these the highest number of cases were observed in Mandsaur, followed by Ratlam 86 cases, 62 in Jabalpur, 43 in Bhopal, 29 In Chhindwara and 11 in Rewa. Additionally, the state has also reported 40 cases of chikungunya in Ujjain district that were geared up against dengue in time.
According to health experts, dengue rises in the monsoon season that provides stagnant water for mosquitoes to breed.
Currently, the state reports maximum cases from Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore and Gwalior. “The testing and monitoring is ramped up”, informed Himanshu Jaswar, deputy director of the health department. He has directed all residents to be alert and get themselves tested immediately if any symptoms are observed. Earlier on August 10, Indore District Malaria Officer Dr Daulat Patel informed that the health department has begun fogging in the surrounding of patients’ houses and also distributing medicine to the residents in the area
The state has provided free dengue screening at Jai Prakash Hospital, Hamidia, BMHRC, AIIMS and Bairagarh Civil Hospital in Bhopal. Apart from this, the district hospital of all the districts also has announced free check-ups.
