Sports: Qualifying to secure her spot in the finals, Indian Discus thrower Kamal Preet Kaur staged one of the best performances from the Indian contingent finishing second on Saturday. The final will be held on August 2nd. 

KamalPreet in her maiden game qualified for the final Women’s Discus at Tokyo Olympics with a best throw of 64m. The 25 year old from Patalia cruised past the gold-medallist Sandra Perkovic (63.75m) of Croatia and reigning world champion Yaime Perez (63.18) of Cuba. She is the only two throwers among the 31-women to seal automatic qualification with her throw of 64m and above.

KamalPreet has notably set a new national record earlier this year during the Federation Cup in March with a best throw of 65.06m mark, which is the 6th best throw in the world in 2021.

In the meanwhile, the Indian Hockey team defeated Ireland and South Africa and secured their spot in the quarter finals.

Shuttler PV Sindhu will later be in action in the women’s singles semi-finals. While, archer Atanu Das and boxer Amit Panghal crashed out of the Games.
