Sports: After Mirabai Chanu’s silver medal victory in women’s 49 kgs weightlifting on day one of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, India now eyes Boxer Lovlina Borgohain for another dazzling win. 

Defeating Nien-Chin Chen in the Women’s Welterweight (64-69kg) category on Friday, Indian Boxer Lovlina reserved her spot in the semi-finals. After scripting history by assuring herself of a medal in the Women’s Welterweight boxing category, the 23 year old Assam boxer now eyes the top of the podium.

Meanwhile, Indian athletes from 25m Pistol Women’s Qualification event Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat were slammed with a defeat. On the other hand, Deepika Kumari who had built her grounds sealing a win against ROC’s Ksenia Perova in Women’s Archery Individual 1/8 eliminations, was defeated in the quarterfinals against An San of  South Korea.

Also, Avinash Mukund Sable missed out on qualifying for the finals of Men’s 300m Steeplechase. Despite missing the medal, the Indian athlete broke the national record, clocking 8:18:12.

The men’s hockey team will be high on confidence when they take on Japan after having beaten defending Olympic champions Argentina yesterday. PV Sindhu defeated Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark on Thursday and will take on Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals.
