New Delhi: Amidst the resurgence of the virus, the nation crippled with a shortage of beds, oxygen to ventilators and other COVID-19 essentials.

In an approach to prepare for the probable third wave, PM Modi will chair a high-level meeting with his new Cabinet on Friday at 11:30 am to review the augmentation and availability of medical oxygen across the country, government sources said.

As several hospitals reported oxygen shortage during the second wave in April-May, the Union government has asserted to coordinate with states and boost oxygen demand and supply.

As per the probability curves laid by the Union Health Ministry, the third wave would hit the country by September-October this year.

PM Modi on June 26, had held a meeting with top officials to review the progress of vaccination and the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Meanwhile, as of Friday, 43,393 fresh infections were recorded in the last 24 hours. So far, 3,03,18,083 coronavirus cases have been reported since the outbreak. While 44,459 recuperated, 911 succumbed to the virus.
