New Delhi: According to the latest statement issued by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), Kheti Bachao, Loktantra Bachao Diwas or ‘Save Agriculture, Save Democracy Day’ will be observed on Saturday all over the nation to mark the completion of seven months of farmers’ protest. It also marks the completion of 46 years since the promulgation of Emergency in India (1975).
In this regard, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar reiterated that farmers must end their agitation. The minister assured that the centre is open to discussion regarding any provision in the farm laws. “I want to tell all the farmers union people that they should end their agitation. The GOI is also ready to discuss and redress any provision of law”, tweeted the minister.
The farmers have been camping on the outskirts of Delhi. They demand to repeal the three farm laws and want to seek legal guarantee on the minimum support prices for the crops. Already, the union minister has chaired 11 inconclusive rounds of talk with the farmers. In order to mark the completion of a seven-month protest, farmers are planning to submit memorandums to the Governors across the nation against the three farm laws.
Meanwhile the police and the paramilitary forces have been deployed to maintain the peace, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) said that sending memorandums shall be done peacefully. As a precautionary measure, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to keep the metro stations; Vishwavidyalaya, Vidhan Sabha, and Civil Lines closed from 10 am to 2 pm IST on Saturday.
