New Dehli: The Delhi government on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the families of military personnel, policemen, and civil defence personnel, who lost their lives in the line of duty. 

Addressing a press conference, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “The Delhi government respects and values every soldier who works for the country whether in the army, police or civil defence. As soon as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power in the national capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arranged an honorarium of Rs 1 crore each for the family members of such people who gave their lives to the country.” 

The decision was taken in a meeting held by the state government. Three brave martyrs from the Air Force, two from Delhi Police and one from Civil Défense will be honoured with the ex-gratia. 

Following are the martyrs in accordance with their departments who are listed for the ex-gratia

  1. Family of ACP Sanket Kaushik- Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sanket Kaushik died in July 2020 after he was run over by a truck near Rajokri flyover while he was on duty.
  1. Family of non combatant Rajesh Kumar- Rajesh Kumar was in Air Force and had died after a plane had crashed in Arunachal Pradesh in June 2019. 
  1. Flight lieutenant Sunit Mohanty- The late pilot was also martyred in Arunachal Pradesh’s plane crash that happened in June 2019. 
  1. IAF fighter jet pilot Meet Kumar- The pilot had lost his life in a MiG-21 aircraft crash in Patta Jattian in Jawali subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district. The tragic accident had taken place in July 2018. 
  1. Constable Vikas Kumar- The constable was run over by a car while he was on his duty and trying to stop vehicles from travelling on the wrong side. 
  1. Civil Defence personnel Pravesh Kumar- Pravesh Kumar was also run over by a truck when he was on his duty on the highway last year.
