New Delhi: India reported 84,332 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. This took the cumulative count of infections to 2,93,59,155 stated the Union Health Ministry.

The recovery rate at 95.07 percent accounted for 1,21,311 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 2,79,11,384. 

The number of active cases has reduced to 10,80,690 accounting for 3.68 percent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of 40,981 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.25 percent reported 4,002 deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to 3,67,081.

Dr Fauci, Medical advisory to the US President in context of the extended window between vaccine doses said,” extending intervals between vaccine doses could leave people vulnerable to infection by one of the Covid variants in circulation.” This comes as the government lately, extended the gap between doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine (manufactured and sold in India as Covishield) to 12-16 weeks – from the existing six-eight weeks. 

ICMR on Friday tested 19,20,477 infected samples. The cumulative samples tested by ICMR accounted for 37,62,32,162. As per MoHFW, 34,33,763 doses of vaccines were administered across the country in a single day. So far 24,96,00,304 citizens have been immunized against the novel virus under the national immunization drive.
