New Delhi: Veteran superstar Dilip Kumar was discharged on Friday from PD Hinduja Hospital after being hospitalized on complaints of breathlessness. 

The 98-year-old actor was admitted on Sunday, June 6, following which he was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion. He later underwent a pleural aspiration procedure to discharge the fluid from his lungs.

 Dilip Kumar’s family friend, Faisal Farooqui confirmed this news on Twitter. Farooqui wrote, “With the blessings and prayers of all of you, Dilip Sahab is going to his home from the hospital. Your immense love and affection always touch the heart of Sahab”.

Dilip Kumar’s wife, veteran actor Saira Banu said doctors have advised him to continue to take antibiotics.  “The fluid has been removed and he took a rest in the hospital for a few days. Now we are going home. Pray for his good health and pray that he should be alright,” Banu told reporters after the actor was discharged from the hospital at around 12:45 PM on Friday.

Dilip Kumar was initially supposed to be discharged on Thursday, but his family and doctors decided to keep him under observation for a day and then discharge him on Friday. 

The veteran actor’s career spanned over five decades. Beginning with  Jwar Bhata in 1944. His splendid works include “Mughal-e-Azam”, “Devdas”, “Naya Daur”, and “Ram Aur Shyam”
