Iranian hardliners and officials have raised their grievances against the United States after the Republicans suffered a stunning resounding defeat in their mid-term election losses, claiming that it reveals still Washington’s inability to meet its goals in the eight-month war.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was one of the most forceful critics with an open condemnation of the United States, directly jeering the Trump administration on X.

Several key personnel in the American administration were singled out by Rezaei, who said, “You lost the war and the election. He’s quoted Vice President J.D Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the commander of US Central Command, depicting Washington’s leadership as fragile and unsteady.

Rezaei’s comments were meant to underscore the increasing political harm the Sunni administration in Washington faces from the war. But the Republican Party’s electoral victories have given Tehran a chance to ratchet up the pressure on Washington, and, in the process, some doubts on the effectiveness of its strategy.

Still, months of conflict seen as not yielding the U.S. desired results, and political issues now straining Iran’s government will likely undermine the hardliners’ resolve to secure their goals.

The latest comments reiterate the notion that the evolving American domestic politics are a topic of keen interest in Tehran and that the Republican loss was seen as a chance to bolster the Iranian campaign about Washington losing influence and support in the conflict.
