On Thursday, Union minister and BJP candidate for Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh Hardeep Singh Puri got unopposed election to the house of the Union ministers.

The other two candidates’ nomination papers were rejected in the scrutiny and Puri won the contest as the only candidate.

However, on the last day to withdraw nominations, the Returning Officer Mr Umesh Sharma officially announced the political candidate turned career Diplomat to the Upper House of Parliament.

Other Candidates’ Nominations Rejected

During the scrutiny process, the nominations were withdrawn of two opposition Congress nominees – Kante Sayanna and Rajkumar Lohani.

When none of the others remained of good standing there was no need for a bypoll again.

If voting were required a Nov. 12 election had been called.

Madhya Pradesh BJP president Hemant Khandelwal took Puri’s certificate of election from the returning officer in the presence of then party MLA Rameshwar Sharma.

Rajya Sabha Seat Fell Vacant Last Month

The House had an extra seat this time after Union minister L Murugan resigned from the Upper House last month. Murugan was set to be the chief minister for a maximum period of April 2, 2030, which was to be before the state assembly election, and led to a by-election.

Later, the BJP nominated Hardeep Singh Puri for its Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha candidate.

Unopposed the MP from Puri has become the member of the Upper House where he has to serve an additional role of Parliamentarian apart from his Union Petroleum Ministerial duties.
