An eyeing deep depression in the Southeast Bay of Bengal has the potential to develop into a second cyclone off the east coast of India and is expected to cause rainfall in coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh up to November 3, Regional Meteorological Centre said on Sunday.

It is a development from the cyclone Arnab which hit Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coast last week as a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speed of 125-135 kmph.

Depression Intensifies Over Bay of Bengal

According to the weather office, a depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards at a speed of 23 kmph before intensifying into a deep depression on Sunday.

System was under observation for possible further intensification, as there could be another cyclone forming from this system over the Bay of Bengal.

System Located Hundreds of Kilometres From Coast

The RMCC has stated that the deep depression was over the Southeast Bay of Bengal at 5:30 am on Sunday.

The system was located some 700 km southeast of Chennai, 770 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 810 km southeast of Ongole in AP at the time.

The cloud system has captured the attention of the weather in the eastern coastal regions, especially Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh with heavy rain expected over the next few days.

The latest development could trigger another round of bad weather in parts of southern India as cyclone Arnab has struck the area only recently.

The weather department is keeping a close watch on the intense depression in terms of its intensity and movement.
