On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi organised a roadshow meeting farmers in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat, during which slogans chanted by locals in the vicinity were: “Modi kahin nahi jayega” (Modi will not go anywhere).

The chants seemed like a reaction to a comment by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge who had made the comment “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (Even Modi’s father will go) in a Congress function in Patna recently.

Slogans During Roadshow

The supporters lined up the road in Bhildi town and chanted slogans in support of the Prime Minister and also carried placards supporting the Prime Minister.

Some stickers say “Jab tak Bharat viksit nahi hoga, Modi kahin nahi jayega”, Modi will not move anywhere till India is developed.

Others said that Modi would have to “equal” India as an independent country before he was ousted from office and to become one of the leading economies of the world.

BJP President Lal Krishna Advani accompanied him from the helipad and while reaching the Banas Dairy plant, Modi was seen getting into an open jeep with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Harsh Sanghavi, Deputy Chief Minister.

Development Projects and Farmers’ Rally

The prime minister visited Banaskantha to launch and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth of ₹14 lakh crore. He also had to announce the launch of 24th installment of PM-KISAN scheme.

His visit also saw the slogans continue at the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC), Bhildi where he addressed an assembly comprising large number of farmers.

The visit offered a mixture of announcements and showcasing of political support, combined with development and agricultural support. The melees too also triggered a resurgence of interest around a similar exchange of words between the leaders of the BJP and Congress after Kharge’s speeches in Patna.

The slogans were reflecting the political message emanating from Modi’s visit to Gujarat.
