The Haryana and Punjab police on Wednesday along with the Punjab police in a joint probe have arrested a 29 year old terror attack suspect in connection with grenade attack on a police station at Fazilka in the North-west of Punjab.

The accused is Kulwant Singh alias Kulwant Ali of Alike village, in Fazilka district. He is on the wanted list for the Grenade Attack outside Jalalabad City’s police station on 13th September, police said.

Suspect Arrested From Relative’s House

Singh was spotted at Faridabad on the night of 26 October, authorities said, after having been spotted hiding at his aunt’s house in the Panchayati Jhuggi village which comes under Chhainsa police station area.

After the information was shared with the police in Punjab, a joint team of Haryana Police’s Special Task Force, Faridabad district police and the Punjab police was put together.

The team had Wednesday morning detained Singh and then placed him under their custody at Fazilka for further enquiry.

Suspected Links to Pakistan-Based Operatives

Police officials claimed that Singh was in contact with the Pakistani operatives and he was following their orders. He was also believed to have connections with another terror-backed gangster of Pakistan origin Shehzad Bhatti.

He is being investigated in another case where eight kilograms of RDX, foreign handguns and bullets were found in the Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. This consignment was said to have been dropped off via a drone from Pakistan.

Singh was suspected of taking the initiative in the Fazilka grenade attack, a senior police officer said. The next day two purported attackers were arrested and told police that they had followed his orders.

Police are probing into the alleged network and any potential cross-border links as Singh is being interviewed.
